Just in case the
term “Blings” is not a familiar one for you let me explain in terms that
at least I understand. Several years ago, in the high density
urban centers of our country the jewelry worn by many was very gaudy, very
shiny, and very large. There was no such thing as too much of a good
thing as the more that was worn, the more one’s status improved.
As with most fads or new ways of referring to things “Blings” became part
and
parcel with our shared jargon. Today “bling” refers to any item of
jewelry worn by men, women, and our pets.
A close Christian friend
of mine at one time was selling artisan jewelry for a company that featured
in-home sales and determined that she could make some handcrafted jewelry
items that might be on a par with that company’s product. So after
some experimenting with some semi-precious stones, beads and the findings
that hold them together, she began producing some handmade jewelry of necklaces,
watchbands, bracelets, and sets of necklaces and earrings.
On an irregular basis
over a year or more, she and two other mutual Christian friends and I would
meet for dinner. In addition to a meal we would often have a devotional
and prayer session. These three women and I share a love of God.
We are so grateful for His Son Jesus Christ and the gift of life we have
received through the salvation available through His death and resurrection.
(If you need to discover the magnitude of God’s love, feel free to drop
me a line and we can talk about that!)
In addition to our Christian
fellowship, it so happened on one occasion she choose to bring along some
of her handiwork, and that is all it took to get the rest of us hooked
on making jewelry. Her handcrafted jewelry productions were pretty
awesome and since then she has gone on to establish herself as a legal
business entity and has sold a number of pieces.
Soon the four of us were
getting together weekly for a time of fellowship as we created some “Blings”
AKA our handmade jewelry. Naturally each of us comes to the process
with a different creative vision and that has allowed each of us to expand
our own approaches to the hobby.
I have spent many extremely
enjoyable hours creating new items. I have also deconstructed a number
of costume jewelry items of my deceased mother and have used a number of
them to create some amazing (I think) new looks. I have discovered
that with each new creation my handcrafted jewelry techniques have grown
and I am doing some things I would have never thought possible even a month
or so ago.
As the number of projects
of watchbands, bracelets, necklaces, earrings grew, so has the interest
that has been expressed by friends and family. This web site is basically
for them to see the “fruits of my labors."
